OVER DUCHé d'uzès
From the creation of Duché D'Uzès - wine to the birth of an appellation!

The 300 hectare Duché D’Uzès wine region is located around the city of Uzès, west of Avignon and north of Nîmes, and extends over 77 municipalities in the Gard. In July 2013, this IGP (Indication Géographique Protégée), which belongs to the wine region of the Rhône Valley, was renamed AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlé). Traditionally, viticulture was cultivated, but the excellent reputation this wine region once had (17th-century writer Jean Racine referred to "the best wine in the kingdom") was lost over the years. Only in recent years did this wine region make itself heard again thanks to the efforts that were made, quality that also convinced the authorities.everd werden, kwaliteit die ook de instanties wist te overtuigen.
The grape varieties

For the red wines, which represent 70% of the wine production, the Syrah ratio is greater than or equal to 40% of the composition; for Grenache it is greater than or equal to 20%.
For rosé, Syrah must be greater than or equal to 20% and Grenache must make up at least 50% of the composition.

The white wines are mainly based on Viognier and this grape must be higher than or equal to 40% of the composition, followed by Grenache Blanc which must be higher or equal to 30%.
The ratio of the Marsanne, Roussanne and Vermentino grape varieties, together or separately, must be greater than or equal to 20% of the composition.

The vines must be planted with a minimum density of 4000 vines / ha.
Maximum yield for the wines: 55 hl / ha.
Domaine La Tour de Gâtigne limits the yield of its Duché D'Uzès white, rosé and red wine to 35l / ha.
